The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line will begin operating trains at 10-minute intervals starting Monday, August 11, 2025, effectively reducing travel time between Marina and Mile 2 to just 10 minutes — an eight-minute drop from the current duration.

In a statement released by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the agency noted that the new schedule will save commuters up to 44 per cent in travel time and significantly enhance the overall passenger experience.

With the adjusted frequency, weekday and Saturday trips will rise from 72 to 90, while Sunday operations will remain at 22 trips.

LAMATA’s Managing Director, Abimbola Akinajo, credited the development to the acquisition of additional rolling stock funded by the Lagos State Government with support from the Federal Government.

“We are excited to facilitate the increase in the number of trips since our commitment is to have a world-class, sustainable transport system that satisfies stakeholders and drives the growth of Lagos,” Akinajo said.

She added that the expansion is a precursor to the full operation of the Blue Line, which will extend to Okokomaiko once infrastructure works are completed in the last quarter of 2026.

Since its launch on September 4, 2023, the Blue Line has transported over five million passengers. The second phase of the project is currently under construction and is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2027.
