The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has impounded over 600 commercial motorcycles in a week-long enforcement operation across the metropolis.

The exercise, led by the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, targeted areas notorious for flouting the ban on Okada operations, including Ishaga, Balogun Bus Stop in Iju-Ishaga, Ijegun Roundabout, Iyana-Iba, Iyana-Ishasi, Igbo-Elerin, Iyana-School, Volkswagen Bus Stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, and Kola Bus Stop on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

According to the Taskforce, a total of 668 motorcycles were seized while seven suspects were arrested. The operation followed a series of complaints and distress calls linking commercial motorcyclists to robberies, assaults, and other criminal activities in the affected areas, especially during late-night hours.

At Kola Bus Stop, Taskforce officials reportedly faced resistance when hoodlums and Okada riders attempted to disrupt the operation. Security operatives dispersed the mob, restoring order without any reported injuries.

Speaking on the exercise, CSP Akerele warned Okada operators against defying the state’s traffic and safety laws, stressing that enforcement will continue until full compliance is achieved.

“Recalcitrant violators of the law should desist immediately or face the full weight of the law,” he cautioned.

He added that all motorcycles seized will be forfeited through the court and crushed in line with state regulations.

The Taskforce maintained that the crackdown forms part of a broader strategy to curb insecurity, protect law-abiding residents, and keep Lagos roads safe.
