The House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services has commended the Jigawa State Government for introducing major health sector reforms and allocating over 15 percent of its annual budget to healthcare.
Committee Chairman Amos Gwamna-Magaji gave the commendation on Wednesday during a visit to Governor Umar Namadi in Dutse.
He said the reforms had improved health services, curbed the brain drain of medical professionals, and supported the state’s plan to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
Gwamna-Magaji also congratulated the state for winning a $500,000 PSC Leadership Challenge Award, describing it as proof of its growing reputation in healthcare transformation.
Governor Namadi reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening primary healthcare services, harmonising health workers’ salaries with federal scales, and prioritising health in the state’s development plans.
He said his administration had conducted a baseline survey to guide planning and aimed to make primary healthcare centres more functional and comfortable for both workers and citizens.
