The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) registered a total of 66,951 residents during the pre-registration phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Oyo State.
Dr. Adeniran Tella, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, disclosed this figure while addressing attendees at the launch of the CVR sensitisation campaign.
He explained that the high turnout reflects the willingness of Oyo residents to actively engage in the democratic process.
According to him, the campaign is meant to raise awareness about the registration procedures, reduce overcrowding at registration centres, and ensure smooth participation.
“The number is impressive,” he said, adding that it “indicates that residents of the state remain eager to participate fully in the democratic process.”
Tella made this known on Tuesday during the inauguration event held at the INEC collation centre in Ibadan.
He noted that online pre-registration commenced on August 18, while physical registration began on August 25.
He further explained that individuals who have just turned 18 or those who have not registered can complete the process either at the state INEC office or in any of the 33 local government offices across the state.
He also advised already registered voters not to visit the offices unnecessarily.
“If the PVC is defaced, or if voters wish to transfer it from one LGA, ward, or state, this can be done online,” he said.
Tella urged citizens to take advantage of the commission’s official portal-https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/Public/getStarted—to carry out all CVR-related activities, including registration, transfer, and replacement of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
