The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has said it  expanded healthcare and nutrition services in Madagali.

It explained that the work included the renovation of the central health centre, the installation of a water tower, the construction of a solar-powered facility with boreholes, and the introduction of the “Tom Brown” nutrition programme.

Head of the ICRC Sub-delegation in Mubi, Ms. Francesca Piccin, said the project was carried out with the support of community leaders, including the Chairman of the Madagali Ward Development Committee, Mr. Musa Adhas.

She noted that the initiative aimed to repair damage left since 2014 when armed groups destroyed infrastructure and displaced families.

She also said that the continuous arrival of people fleeing conflict in nearby areas had increased the pressure on the community.

Piccin stated that the ICRC regained access to Madagali in April 2024 after six years of absence.

She added that the organisation planned to complete the new healthcare facility by the end of the year.

She explained that all interventions focused on Madagali in Northern Adamawa State, one of the communities hardest hit by conflict.

It was stated that the ICRC worked with locals who provided land for the new centre.

She added that women were trained in nutrition and hygiene, farmers received materials to improve their work, and volunteers got higher stipends to strengthen community services.
