Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has lifted his block on human rights lawyer Festus Ogun on X (formerly Twitter), following a private meeting at Lagos House, Marina, on Friday, September 12, 2025.

Ogun, who had sued the governor for allegedly violating his fundamental rights by blocking him, confirmed the development in an Instagram post on Saturday. He said the governor personally invited him for a dialogue to address his concerns.

“Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unblocked me on X (Twitter). I met briefly with him yesterday at Lagos House Marina, on his invitation, to amicably resolve my complaint of human rights violations. We will continue to hold authorities accountable, regardless. Aluta continua!” Ogun wrote.

Governor’s spokesman, Gboyega Akosile, also confirmed the meeting, describing it as another example of Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to citizen engagement.

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has again displayed leadership by inviting a citizen that sued him over the alleged blocking on X,” Akosile wrote on Saturday night.

Ogun had earlier dragged the governor before the Federal High Court in Lagos, accusing him of violating his right to access public information by blocking him on the social media platform. He argued that the action was unconstitutional and discriminatory, citing international precedents on free speech and access to information.

In his suit, marked FHC/L/CS/1739/25, Ogun demanded a public apology, an order compelling the governor to unblock him, and an end to alleged targeting of critics online.

The dispute stemmed from Ogun’s criticism of the government’s handling of the October 2020 #EndSARS killings, which he said led to the block.
