The Safe Water Global Initiative, under the leadership of its Founder, Mr. Francis Uzoma, has called for urgent access to clean water in communities affected by flooding.
Uzoma said flooding had contaminated water sources across the country, forcing many citizens—particularly those in rural areas—to rely on unsafe water.
He warned that such conditions could spark outbreaks of cholera and other diseases.
Uzoma emphasized that access to clean water remains a fundamental human right, essential for public health and integral to Nigeria’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals.
He appealed on Thursday in Abuja while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria.
It was noted that heavy rains and flooding often peak between July and September, worsening the threat to safe water.
Uzoma urged authorities to relocate people from flood-prone areas, treat and monitor water after floods, and respond quickly to scientific warnings.
He also called on local governments to prioritize water in their budgets and pressed private companies, faith groups, and civil society to support water projects through corporate social responsibility.
He concluded that coordinated action from government, partners, and communities offers the only way to protect public health and guarantee safe water in flood-hit areas.
