Afrobeats singer, Ayra Starr has apologized to music icon King Sunny Ade for allegedly “disrespecting” him at the Afrozons-Heineken Pre-Grammy party in Lagos.

In the now viral video, the 21-year-old was seen greeting superstar, Burna Boy’s mother, Bose Ogulu and stretching out her hand to shake the legendary Sunny Ade, an act which many considered “disrespectful and inappropriate.”

In Nigerian culture, Ade being in his late 70s is to be greeted with curtsy especially by a much younger 21-year-old.

This stirred a lot of reactions as some Nigerians criticized her for an act they considered to be disrespectful.
Arya Starr reacting to the incident took to her X page on Saturday to apologize for her actions, stating that she could never intentionally disrespect the elderly juju musician.

“I’m so sorry, I had just walked in and all the lights and nerves didn’t let me see but i came back around to greet everyone properly, I have never been that girl to be disrespectful, I’m a proper Yoruba girlllll and the video didn’t start until after I’d greeted burna’s mom! I’m very sorry to the legend, uncle and King Sunny Ade,” she wrote.
