The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has unveiled plans to increase its refining capacity from 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) to an impressive 1.4 million bpd — a move that will make it the largest refinery in the world upon completion.

President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, made the announcement during a press briefing in Lagos on Sunday.

According to him, the expansion work will commence immediately and will elevate the refinery above India’s Jamnagar Refinery, currently the largest globally.

“We are expanding the Dangote Petroleum Refinery from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day. Upon completion, this will make it the largest refinery in the world, surpassing the Jamnagar Refinery in India,” Dangote stated.

He disclosed that the project would generate approximately 65,000 new jobs, with 85 percent reserved for Nigerians.

In addition, the refinery will upgrade its fuel production to Euro VI standards — the world’s highest environmental benchmark — improving both output quality and sustainability.

Dangote further revealed that the facility’s power generation capacity would double from 500 megawatts to 1,000 megawatts as part of the upgrade.

He also announced plans to list the refinery on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2026, enabling Nigerians to invest and share in its growth.

Dangote expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support, adding that the expansion project is scheduled for completion within three years.

“We appreciate President Tinubu’s unwavering support. The expansion is expected to be completed within three years,” he said.
