A three-storey building with a penthouse collapsed on Thursday morning in the Alayabiagba area of Apapa, Lagos, leaving one person dead and eight others rescued from the debris.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident, which occurred at No. 28 Baale Alayabiagba Street, Ajegunle, around 11:09 a.m.
According to the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s emergency response teams were immediately deployed from Agbowa and Alausa following distress calls.
“On arrival, the building was found to have completely collapsed, trapping several workers underneath,” Oke-Osanyintolu said. “So far, one adult male has been confirmed dead, while eight persons have been successfully rescued and are receiving medical attention.”
He added that rescue and recovery operations had been concluded and that investigations were underway to determine the cause of the collapse.
