Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for public servants in Ogun State as part of measures to cushion the impact of rising fuel costs.

The initiative, which takes effect from April 2026 and will run for an initial three months, is aimed at easing commuting challenges and improving workers’ welfare.

Announcing the development, the State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, said eligible workers would enjoy one day off each week in addition to the transport support. He noted that the move is designed to boost morale and enhance productivity across the public service.

However, certain categories of workers—including medical personnel, judicial officers, teachers, security operatives, and top administrative officials—are exempt from the weekly day-off policy due to the critical nature of their duties. Despite this, they will still receive the ₦10,000 allowance.

Onasanya added that Accounting Officers in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) would determine suitable days off for eligible staff without disrupting government operations.

He described the intervention as timely and urged workers to reciprocate the government’s gesture with greater commitment, discipline, and improved service delivery.

The measure underscores the state government’s effort to support its workforce while maintaining efficiency amid ongoing economic pressures.
