Access Bank says it is working with relevant regulatory and law enforcement agencies to identify those behind the circulation of false information about the bank. There was news that the bank has shut down.
The lender said those responsible for creating and spreading the misinformation to cause panic and disrupt business operations would face legal action in line with applicable laws.
The bank also reminded the public that the creation and dissemination of false information capable of causing panic or undermining confidence in institutions is an offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
It urged customers to ignore the fake message and rely only on information released through its official and verified communication channels.
Access Bank further advised members of the public not to share or forward misleading messages but to disregard them and verify information through the bank’s authorised platforms.
