Ademola Lookman, superstar winger for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has wiped all Atalanta-related content from his Instagram page amid escalating transfer tensions between his club and Inter Milan.
The move comes after Atalanta reportedly turned down a €42 million offer — plus €3 million in add-ons — from Inter Milan for the 27-year-old attacker. Despite Lookman and the Nerazzurri reportedly agreeing on personal terms, Atalanta remains firm on its €60 million valuation.
In apparent reaction to the failed negotiations, Lookman unfollowed Atalanta on Instagram, removed the club’s name from his bio, and deleted all photos and posts showing him in the club’s colours — including his profile picture.
Adding to the uncertainty surrounding his future, Lookman was omitted from Atalanta’s squad for their pre-season clash against RB Leipzig in Germany on Saturday. Club sources, however, cited a calf injury as the reason for his absence, stating he will be sidelined for several weeks.
Lookman joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022 for €10.8 million and has since netted 52 goals in 118 appearances for the Serie A side. He etched his name in club history by scoring a hat-trick in the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League final, securing Atalanta’s first-ever European trophy.
He is also the reigning CAF African Footballer of the Year, taking over the honour from compatriot Victor Osimhen.
