The Minister of State for Finance, Mrs Doris Uzoka-Anite, has announced that administrative processes surrounding the payment of bonuses to the Super Eagles for the AFCON 2025 tournament have been fully streamlined.
In a statement posted on her official X handle on Thursday, Uzoka-Anite addressed concerns over delayed payments to players of Nigeria’s national football team.
Her clarification followed media reports suggesting that some players had threatened to boycott training and declined to travel to Marrakech ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final clash against Algeria.
The minister said the Federal Government, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), had resolved foreign exchange challenges that had affected the timely settlement of players’ entitlements.
According to her, all group-stage match bonuses have been fully released and have passed the necessary regulatory approvals, assuring that no further administrative delays would occur.
Uzoka-Anite added that a fast-track foreign exchange conversion process was introduced to accommodate players’ preference for payments in foreign currency.
She explained that final transfers to players’ domiciliary accounts were already in progress and expected to reflect within 24 hours.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of the players, stressing that efforts were focused on supporting the team as they push for AFCON 2025 glory.
