Residents of Agege have commended the second edition of a 50 per cent food discount programme, describing it as a timely intervention that is helping to ease the burden of rising living costs.

The initiative, spearheaded by the local council chairman, Abdulganiyu Obasa, allows families to purchase essential food items at half price. Following the success of the first edition held in February, the programme has continued to attract strong participation from residents.

Organised in partnership with T.Topps Foods, the scheme provides discounted staples, offering much-needed relief during the festive and religious season.
Beneficiaries say the programme has significantly improved access to affordable food amid ongoing economic challenges. Many residents expressed gratitude, noting that the initiative has helped them better manage household expenses.

Some participants described the intervention as people-focused governance, urging authorities to sustain and expand the programme due to its direct impact on families.

Others highlighted the convenience of accessing essential items like rice and beans at reduced prices, adding that the initiative has brought meaningful relief to the community.

The programme, which coincided with Easter celebrations, has further strengthened its appeal, with residents describing it as both timely and impactful in addressing everyday needs.
