The Amuwo Odofin Local Government has announced plans to move traders at Agboju Market to a temporary settlement, as part of ongoing redevelopment efforts in the area.
According to the council, the resettlement site—already under construction in Agboju—will provide a safer, cleaner, and more organized environment for traders currently operating along roads and walkways.
Executive Chairman, Prince Lanre Sanusi (PLS), directed the project team to accelerate work to ensure the relocation is completed within schedule.
“The market place under construction is a temporary settlement which, when completed, will serve as an alternative site for traders in Agboju,” Sanusi explained.
He noted that the relocation is necessary to allow road renovations, drainage clearance, and electrification works around Agboju Market, which are expected to last for some time.
Traders have been formally notified and encouraged to prepare for the move. The council assured that the temporary site would be delivered within weeks, to prevent business disruption.
Sanusi added that the redevelopment projects would also extend to the Agboju–Badagry Expressway axis once the temporary market becomes operational.
Beyond the interim arrangement, the council revealed plans to construct a permanent Ultra-Modern International Market at 6th Avenue, Festac Town, to accommodate traders and expand business opportunities. Similarly, land has been allocated in the same axis for a mechanic village, where automobile workshops and related businesses will be relocated.
