Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has been cleared by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Screening Committee to participate in the party’s primary election ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship poll.
Speaking after the screening exercise held in on Saturday, Dr Hamzat said the committee thoroughly reviewed documents submitted by aspirants and sought clarifications on areas relating to public service and professional experience.
The deputy governor, described in the statement as the consensus candidate of the APC in Lagos, expressed satisfaction with the exercise, noting that the process was transparent and consistent with the democratic ideals of the party.
According to him, the screening was aimed at verifying the credentials, records and experiences submitted by aspirants seeking to emerge as the APC governorship candidate.
“The screening was designed to verify the credentials, records, and experiences submitted by aspirants seeking to fly the APC flag. The essence of the screening is to ensure that everything submitted is accurate and verifiable,” Hamzat said.
He added that members of the committee requested further clarification on some aspects of his record and sought more insight into the roles he had played in government over the years.
Hamzat also expressed confidence in the APC primary process and reaffirmed his commitment to the continued growth and development of Lagos State.
“I am very comfortable with my party and confident in the democratic process. Ultimately, the decision rests with party members and the people. Our responsibility is to continue offering our best in service to the state and the country,” he said.
The deputy governor further reiterated his belief in the capacity of to remain a leading model of innovation, governance and development in Nigeria, stressing that leadership must remain focused on delivering meaningful impact to citizens.
The statement also noted that Hamzat has received the endorsement of President ahead of the APC governorship primary.
