Army lieutenant dies during rescue of abducted Oyo pupils, teachers

The military has confirmed the death of an Army officer, Lieutenant F.A. Isaac, during the operation that rescued 44 abducted pupils and teachers from the Old Oyo National Park in Oyo State.

Lieutenant Isaac was killed in the line of duty during the coordinated rescue operation carried out by security agencies on July 10, 2026, after the victims had spent several days in captivity.

Military sources disclosed that the officer was buried the same day he lost his life.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier revealed that the military suffered a casualty during the operation. Sources identified the fallen officer as Lieutenant Isaac, who was among those leading the mission to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers before he was fatally wounded.

The victims were kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on or about June 6, 2026, and were successfully rescued following sustained security operations in the Old Oyo National Park.
