Enugu State has officially sent its team to the 8th Under-15 National Youth Games, where they will compete in ten different sports for a chance to win medals and make the state proud.
The delegation, made up of 62 athletes and 25 officials, is being led by the Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Commissioner Lloyd Ekweremadu and the Director of Media and Publications, Dan Onwuegbuna, are supervising the team, with full support from Governor Peter Mbah, who approved the state’s participation.
Addressing the athletes before departure, Ekweremadu urged them to remain confident and give their best during the competition.
He said, “The State Government has implicit confidence in your ability to perform well and win medals for Enugu,” encouraging the team to believe in themselves and uphold the state’s image through discipline and dedication.
The team departed on Tuesday ahead of the tournament, which will take place from August 26 to September 6, 2025.
The event is being held in Asaba, Delta State, and will feature young athletes from across the country.
Enugu’s athletes will compete in ten events, including athletics, boxing, wrestling, judo, taekwondo, table tennis, tennis, weightlifting, and karate.
Onwuegbuna noted that only the male football team will participate, as the state does not currently have a female team.
