The Spinal Cord Injury Association of Nigeria (SCIAN) has urged the Bauchi State Government to create a comprehensive centre for the care and rehabilitation of people living with spinal cord injuries (SCI).
The association’s Bauchi State Chairman, Iliya Ismail, and State Women Coordinator, Princess Marcos, made the call on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi.
SCIAN said the proposed centre would ease the heavy burden faced by survivors, including high medical costs, lack of affordable therapy, and limited access to essential supplies.
It noted that women with SCI face additional challenges such as discrimination, strained relationships, and difficulties in marriage and childbirth.
The association also appealed to philanthropists, religious groups, and relevant agencies to support survivors through affordable healthcare, skills training, and public awareness campaigns on SCI prevention and treatment.
