A 16-year-old girl was on Monday, February 23, arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Badagry, over an alleged threat to kill a 15-year-old girl she accused of “snatching” her boyfriend.
The defendant, whose name and address were withheld because she is a minor, is facing charges of threat to kill and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. She pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Friday Mameh, told the court that the incident occurred on February 20 at about 9:00 p.m. at Khalakuta Jegba Quarters in Badagry.
According to the prosecution, the defendant allegedly used a razor blade to cut the complainant’s face in a bid to force her to end her relationship with the boy in question.
Mameh further stated that the incident caused panic in the neighbourhood, adding that the defendant conducted herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by creating pandemonium in the area.
The prosecution said the complainant sustained injuries and that the defendant was later arrested and handed over to the police.
The alleged offences are said to contravene Sections 230 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate A. J. Aina granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum. He directed that one of the sureties must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 12.
The case was adjourned until March 30 for mention.
