Agali x the scene of the shooting

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the fatal shooting of Adedipe Adeyinkan, popularly known as “Agali,” in the Surulere area of Lagos late Saturday night.

In a statement posted on X, the Command said the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on April 11, 2026, along the National Stadium Bridge inward Iponri. The victim was rushed to Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, where he was confirmed dead.

Police authorities noted that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the killing.

However, multiple local and online reports have identified the deceased as a prominent figure within the Buccaneers (BAN) confraternity in Surulere, describing him as a highly influential and feared personality within the Shitta/Akere axis. These claims have not been officially verified by the police.

Sources allege that Adeyinkan was shot while driving in the Iponri area. Further unconfirmed reports suggest the attack may be linked to rival cult group activities, with some attributing the incident to underlying political tensions ahead of upcoming elections in the area.

It was also claimed that the deceased had recently backed a female political candidate, reportedly placing him at odds with other interests aligned with a popular incumbent figure. These political links remain speculative and have not been substantiated by authorities.

Following the incident, tension has reportedly escalated across parts of Surulere, with fears of possible reprisals. Residents observed a significant security deployment in the area, including multiple police patrol vehicles stationed around Iponri and adjoining communities.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that adequate security measures are in place while efforts continue to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
