A driver of a Mercedes-Benz C-300 has fled after allegedly causing an accident that led to the death of a woman on Saturday morning in .
The incident occurred at the NYSC Bus-Stop, inward Igando, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the General Manager of the (LASTMA), .
Bakare-Oki said the woman was on her way to a worship service at the in Igando when she was fatally struck by the vehicle.
According to him, preliminary reports indicated that the victim was using the designated pedestrian walkway when the car, under circumstances yet to be determined, veered off course and hit her. The driver reportedly absconded from the scene immediately after the incident.
Following distress alerts, LASTMA officials deployed to the area promptly secured the scene to prevent secondary accidents and ensure the safety of other road users. Traffic within the corridor was carefully managed while standard safety and emergency procedures were activated.
In a tragic twist, news of the incident reached the church during the service, where the victim’s husband was already in attendance. Deeply distressed, he and other church members reportedly went to the scene and respectfully conveyed the woman’s remains for necessary rites.
