Operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport were disrupted on Wednesday after an electrical spark forced authorities to shut down Terminal 3.
The incident, which occurred around 2:05 p.m. in an operational office, led to smoke within the terminal and prompted an immediate response from emergency teams.
According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the situation was swiftly contained by the Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services, preventing further escalation.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, confirmed that all flights scheduled for Terminal 3 were temporarily redirected to Terminal 2 to ensure passenger safety.
He added that electrical maintenance is currently underway, and the terminal will remain closed until all systems are fully restored and deemed safe for operations.
Passengers have been advised to take note of the temporary changes while authorities work to normalize airport activities.
