Euracare Multispecialist Hospital has expressed deep sympathy to renowned author Chimamanda Adichie and her family over the death of her son, describing the loss as profound and heartbreaking.

In a press release issued on Saturday, January 10, 2026, the hospital extended its condolences to the Adichie family, acknowledging the “unimaginable pain” that comes with losing a child. Euracare noted that words were insufficient to comfort the family at such a distressing time and said it continues to hold them in its thoughts and prayers.

The hospital, however, stated that it was important to clarify certain reports circulating in the public space, which it said contained inaccuracies regarding the circumstances surrounding the child’s treatment.

According to Euracare, the patient was critically ill and had been referred to its facility for specific diagnostic procedures after receiving care at two paediatric centres. Upon arrival, the hospital said its clinical team immediately commenced treatment in line with established clinical protocols and internationally accepted medical standards, including the use of sedation where medically indicated.

Euracare further explained that it worked collaboratively with external medical teams recommended by the family and ensured that all necessary clinical support was provided. Despite these efforts, the hospital disclosed that the child sadly passed away less than 24 hours after presentation.

The management of Euracare confirmed that a detailed internal investigation has been initiated in line with its clinical governance standards and best practices. The hospital said it remains committed to transparency and responsible engagement with all relevant clinical and regulatory processes.

While emphasising compassion and patient safety, Euracare reiterated its respect for the family’s privacy and stressed that due process must be allowed to take its course as investigations continue.
