The Lagos State Government has issued a travel advisory ahead of the Eyo Festival scheduled to hold on Saturday, December 27, 2025, following its formal declaration by the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.
According to the advisory, vehicular movement will be restricted or fully closed on major roads across Lagos Island, particularly along designated procession routes, to ensure the safety and smooth passage of the traditional Eyo masquerades.
Several key routes will be affected, including access points around the Third Mainland Bridge, Sura Junction, Obalende, Onikan, CMS Bridge, Inner Marina, Apongbon and Idumota. Roads leading to and from Adeniji Adele, Simpson Bridge, Obalende Bridge, CMS, Apongbon Bridge, Carter Bridge and adjoining streets will be temporarily closed to traffic throughout the festival period.
To minimise disruption, motorists heading to Lagos Island are advised to use alternative routes such as the Third Mainland Bridge through Dolphin Road and Osborne Road, connecting via Alfred Rewane Road, Falomo Bridge and Akin Adesola Street, or proceed through Eko Bridge towards Apongbon, CMS, Bonny Camp and Ozumba Mbadiwe Road to access Lekki-Epe Expressway.
Similarly, motorists exiting Lagos Island are encouraged to use the Lekki-Epe Expressway through Victoria Island, Falomo Bridge and Alfred Rewane Road to Dolphin Road and the Third Mainland Bridge, or connect via Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Bonny Camp, CMS and Apongbon towards Eko Bridge.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) stated that its officials will be fully deployed at all diversion points to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and maintain order during the festival.
Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys ahead of time, as the traffic measures may cause temporary inconvenience, which the authorities say is regretted.
