The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that there was no fire outbreak at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, contrary to its earlier statement on Sunday.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, FAAN explained that the incident involved smoke discharged from the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system.
According to the authority, preliminary findings showed there was no fire at the terminal, adding that investigations were ongoing to determine what triggered the activation of the fire suppression system.
FAAN said normal operations have resumed at the terminal and assured passengers, airlines and other airport users that safety and security remain its top priority.
The authority thanked stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation while the investigation continues.
