The family of popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has confirmed his death following a brief illness.
In a statement shared on the actor’s official Instagram page on Wednesday, the family announced that Alexx, born Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke, died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40.
According to the statement, the actor passed away at Evercare Hospital due to complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer after what the family described as a “brief but courageous battle.”
The statement described the late actor as a beloved husband, son, brother and friend, noting that he endured the illness with “remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and enduring hope.”
The family appealed for privacy and prayers during the mourning period, adding that details of funeral arrangements would be announced later.
The post has since attracted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and associates in the entertainment industry. Nollywood actress Chizzy Alichi wrote, “Rest well Alexx,” while others expressed shock and grief over the actor’s passing.
Alexx Ekubo was widely known for his roles in several Nollywood productions and was regarded as one of the prominent faces in the Nigerian movie industry.
