The Lagos State Government has announced temporary road closures and traffic diversions ahead of the Lagos Fanti Carnival scheduled to hold on Monday, April 6, 2026.
In a statement issued through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, authorities said the closures are necessary to ensure the smooth conduct of the cultural event and the safety of participants and spectators.
The roads to be cordoned off from 7:00 a.m. include King George V Road at the junction by Mobil Filling Station, Onikan Roundabout inbound to TBS, Flagstaff House inbound to TBS, Outer Marina by State House inbound to TBS, Campbell Street by the Old Defence Building, and Catholic Mission Street by St. Nicholas Hospital.
Motorists and residents have been advised to plan their movements ahead of time and make use of designated alternative routes to minimize disruption.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), vehicles coming from Obalende towards Onikan Roundabout will be redirected to Zone 2. Similarly, motorists approaching from Bonny Camp towards McEwen Bridge, as well as those descending from Flagstaff House towards TBS, will be diverted through Obalende Bridge.
In addition, traffic from Outer Marina heading towards TBS will also be rerouted via Obalende Bridge.
The state government expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the closures and appealed to the public for cooperation as the city prepares to host the vibrant cultural celebration.
