A female police officer, W/Inspector Alonge Bridget, attached to the Sabo Police Division, Yaba, Lagos State, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, over allegations of physical assault, threats to her life, sustained harassment, and professional misconduct by a senior officer at her station.
In the petition, Alonge accused the Divisional Traffic Officer, W/DSP Josephine Okeme, of repeatedly intimidating and physically attacking her while she was in uniform and on official duty.
According to Alonge, the first incident occurred on February 12, 2025, shortly after she was posted to the traffic unit. She alleged that Okeme struck her in the chest, leaving her unwell for nearly two weeks. She said she sought medical treatment and submitted medical reports to support her claim.
She further alleged that a second incident took place on November 17, 2025, at about 5:20 p.m., while she was on duty at the Divisional Crime Branch following her redeployment from the traffic unit by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), W/CSP Comfort Alabi. Alonge claimed that Okeme stormed into the office, slapped her without provocation, and issued further threats. In the process of trying to escape, she said she sustained an injury to her hand, which later became swollen.
Beyond the workplace, Alonge alleged that the harassment extended into public spaces, claiming that Okeme followed her to bus stops after work, verbally abused her openly, and discouraged commercial drivers from offering her transportation.
She stated that she initially reported the matter to the then Area ‘C’ Commander, ACP Ayoola Oladunni, who invited the accused officer for questioning. However, no misconduct was reportedly established against Okeme. Alonge was temporarily retained at the Area Command before being returned to Sabo Division at the DPO’s request, during which time the DPO allegedly commended her diligence.
Alonge claimed that upon her return to the division, the alleged harassment resumed, prompting her to submit a formal complaint through the Lagos State Police Annex in Obalende, seeking the direct intervention of the IGP.
She also alleged that on December 19, 2025, Okeme verbally assaulted her in her office and later reported her to the DPO for allegedly failing to greet her, leading to an order for her to be questioned.
Efforts by this reporter to obtain clarification from the DPO were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
Although an internal directive from the Officer-in-Charge of the Provost Unit reportedly advised a peaceful resolution between both officers, Alonge maintained that no concrete action followed.
She is now appealing to the Inspector-General of Police for protection, alleging that the senior officer has openly boasted that she would face no consequences, even if Alonge were to suffer serious harm.
