The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade earlier scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2025, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day.
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
Although no reason was given for the cancellation, the government stressed that the move does not diminish the importance of the milestone celebration.
“The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary, and the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement read.
The government noted that all other activities lined up under the theme “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation” will go ahead as planned, while reiterating its appreciation to Nigerians, the diplomatic community and invited guests for their understanding and support.
It also called on citizens to back President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda aimed at building a stronger nation.
Earlier, the Federal Government had declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate the anniversary.
