FG declares Tuesday public holiday for Eid ul Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on Friday.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora, urging Nigerians to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings and values of compassion, humility and service to humanity.

He also called on citizens to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and national cohesion, stressing that building and sustaining a united nation is a collective responsibility.

The minister urged Nigerians to celebrate peacefully and with mutual respect, while reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across the country.

The declaration means workers nationwide will observe Tuesday, August 25, as a public holiday in celebration of Eid ul Mawlid.
