The Federal Ministry of Works has deployed advanced engineering interventions, including geotextiles and rock layering, to safeguard the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway from ocean encroachment.
The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, disclosed this on Monday during an inspection tour of road and bridge projects in Lagos State.
Umahi explained that at Kilometer 14.6, the ocean had nearly broken into the carriageway, posing a serious threat to the ongoing multi-billion-naira highway project.
“This additional work was not anticipated and has eaten into the project’s contingency fund,” he said, adding that failure to act swiftly could have endangered the entire project.
He commended the project contractor and supervising team for their prompt response, which, he said, saved the highway from potential damage.
