Agnes Bessem Okafor, who claims to be a former wife of Pastor Chris Okafor of Grace Nation, has made a series of serious allegations against the cleric, insisting that their relationship was a legally recognised marriage and not a casual affair.
In an emotional statement circulated online, Agnes said she was married to Pastor Okafor at the age of 18, adding that the individuals who conducted the marriage are still alive and can attest to its authenticity. She stated that the union produced four children and described herself as a legitimate wife who stood by the cleric during her youth and early adulthood.
“He took me in my prime, in my youth, as a wife—not as a side chick,” she said, stressing that the marriage was known and formalised. According to her, those who officiated the wedding are now “ashamed” of public statements allegedly made by Pastor Okafor concerning their children.
Agnes further alleged that she eventually left the marriage due to what she described as persistent conduct that brought “shame and disgrace to the body of Christ.” She maintained that she was the one who walked away from the marriage, not the other way around, because she could no longer tolerate his lifestyle and actions.
She also accused the cleric of deception at the start of their marriage, claiming that shortly after their wedding she discovered a marriage certificate under their bed indicating he had previously been married—a fact she said he denied when confronted. According to her, the document is still in existence.
In her statement, Agnes described the cleric’s recent public apology as an attempt to gain sympathy and denied claims that she was anything other than a lawful wife. She accused him of lying on the altar and treating her as a “baby-making machine.”
The allegations have sparked renewed public debate and reactions on social media. As of the time of this report, Pastor Chris Okafor has not issued a detailed response specifically addressing the latest claims.
