The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a criminal syndicate responsible for a series of robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its surrounding communities in the Ashanti Region.

The suspects, identified as Aboy Promise, 30; Favour Uwalaka, 45; and Kingsley, alias KC, 35, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by an IGP’s Special Team on October 31, 2026.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command disclosed this in a press statement dated November 3, 2026, signed by the Head of its Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out at about 11:30pm by personnel of the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.

The first two suspects, Promise and Uwalaka, were arrested at a hotel in Moshie Zongo, where a search of their rooms led to the recovery of GH¢1,600, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key allegedly used to gain unauthorised access to victims’ vehicles.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects were members of a criminal network that specialised in monitoring banking premises, identifying customers who withdrew large sums of money and trailing them before attacking and dispossessing them of their cash.

The syndicate was also alleged to have used master keys to break into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers and steal money kept inside.

During interrogation, the two suspects reportedly admitted their involvement in the robberies and identified two alleged accomplices, Chinedu, popularly known as Alhaji, and Kingsley, also known as KC.

The police team subsequently proceeded to another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley, 35, was arrested.

However, the fourth suspect, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, remains at large, with the police appealing to members of the public to provide credible information that could lead to his arrest.

The police said the suspects admitted to robbing a victim of GH¢15,000 on October 27, 2026, at Asokore Mampong, shortly after the victim withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.

They also reportedly confessed to carrying out similar robberies around the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations within Kumasi and its environs.

The three arrested suspects have since been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations.

The Command urged bank customers to remain vigilant, watch out for suspicious individuals around banking premises and avoid leaving cash or valuables unattended in their vehicles.

It also appealed to anyone with information about the whereabouts of the fleeing suspect to report to the nearest police station or contact the police through emergency numbers 191, 112 or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.

The police assured residents of their commitment to tackling robbery and other criminal activities across the region.
