The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Emmanuel Okpara, over the alleged killing of his girlfriend, Chinyere Susan Rose, a biochemist, event planner and businesswoman.
According to the police, the incident occurred on September 19, 2026, following an argument between Okpara and Rose over the source of an alleged HIV infection.
The police said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation to hitting Rose with a pestle, which he claimed resulted in her death.
It was further alleged that Okpara wrapped the deceased in nylon and concealed her remains inside the toilet of his residence in Olympic Layout, One-Day, Enugu.
The incident reportedly came to light after neighbours detected an offensive odour emanating from the apartment. The neighbours allegedly forced the door open and apprehended Okpara before the arrival of the police.
Rose’s remains were subsequently evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The identity of the deceased, which was initially unknown when the incident began circulating last week, has now been confirmed by her family as Chinyere Susan Rose.
The police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
The outcome of the autopsy and further investigation is expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding Rose’s death.
The allegations against Okpara remain subject to due legal process.
