Four officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), were injured on Wednesday after being attacked by hoodlums in the Victoria Island area of Lagos.

The attack occurred at 134 Sinari Daranijo Street during a joint enforcement operation at Yakoyo Abula Restaurants. The exercise, carried out alongside the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), was aimed at enforcing environmental regulations, including proper disposal of wastewater, fats, and oil.

According to reports, the officials were on lawful duty when hoodlums linked to the restaurant launched an assault. The restaurant’s supervisor was immediately arrested as investigations continue.

Confirming the incident on his X handle, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, condemned the attack, noting that the restaurant had earlier broken the government seal before unleashing armed thugs on the officers.

Wahab warned that the state would not tolerate any form of assault, obstruction, or intimidation against government officials.

“Any individual or business that attacks or threatens officers on duty will face decisive action. Such premises will be sealed, and those responsible prosecuted,” he said.

He added that the Yakoyo Abula Restaurant has been sealed indefinitely while efforts are underway to apprehend others involved in the unlawful act.
