In case you missed it, a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has sentenced former teacher Nwatu Isaac to life imprisonment for defiling an eight-year-old pupil at El-Bossaa Nursery and Primary School, Epe.

Justice Rahman Oshodi also ordered that Isaac’s name be entered in the Sex Offenders Register in accordance with Lagos State law.

The court found Isaac guilty of sexually assaulting the pupil in the school’s male toilet on March 10, 2022, after asking her to retrieve a piece of paper.

The child later reported the incident to her father. Her mother subsequently testified that she noticed blood on the girl’s clothing and body.

Medical evidence presented during the trial was also found to corroborate the child’s account.

Isaac denied being inside the school on the day of the incident, claiming that he remained at the gate. However, the court rejected his defence.

Justice Oshodi held that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, noting that Isaac had betrayed the trust placed in him as the child’s former teacher.
