Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has issued fresh operational directives to senior police officers as part of renewed efforts to bolster internal security across the country.

Speaking at a high-level strategic conference held on Thursday at the Peacekeeping Hall of the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP commended the resilience and sacrifice of police commanders nationwide while outlining new measures ahead of the festive season.

Egbetokun directed Commissioners of Police and tactical commanders to intensify intelligence gathering, strengthen community policing through sustained public engagement, and ensure the protection of vulnerable communities. He also ordered an immediate scale-up of visible policing and wider deployment of personnel nationwide to deter crime during the yuletide period.

Addressing the ongoing enforcement of President Bola Tinubu’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel attached to VIPs, the IGP confirmed that 11,566 officers have so far been removed from such duties.

He said the move is aimed at improving manpower for frontline operations and enhancing nationwide security coverage. According to him, the withdrawn officers will be promptly redeployed to critical policing functions across the country.

Egbetokun reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all citizens and residents, pledging continued efforts to maintain peace and security nationwide.

The conference was attended by senior police officers and heads of tactical units.

The statement was issued by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, on Thursday in Abuja.
