The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has appealed to eligible residents to take part in the second phase of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The appeal was made by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Ayobami Salami, in a statement issued on Thursday by the commission’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr. Taiwo Gbadegesin.
INEC recently concluded the first phase of the nationwide CVR, which commenced on August 18, 2025, and ended on December 10, 2025. According to Prof. Salami, the second phase began on January 5 and is currently taking place across all local government areas and at the INEC headquarters in Lagos State.
He encouraged Lagos residents to take advantage of the opportunity to register and fulfil their civic responsibilities, noting that the eligibility requirements and timelines remain unchanged.
Prof. Salami added that from February 2026, the registration process would operate on a rotational basis within registration areas to improve accessibility and convenience for residents.
The REC assured that INEC officials are fully prepared to conduct a smooth and transparent exercise but expressed concern over the relatively low turnout recorded so far. He noted that the second phase of the CVR will run until April 17, 2026.
Salami also warned that the commission would not tolerate any form of disruption, violence, or unruly behaviour at registration centres, adding that security agencies have been placed on alert to ensure a peaceful and orderly process.
The commission further disclosed that the third phase of the CVR is scheduled to begin on May 4 and will end on August 17, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
