Former Lagos Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Abdulazeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially announced his intention to contest the state’s top seat again in 2027.

Speaking during a television programme on Thursday, Jandor—who defected from PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier this year—said he remains committed to pursuing his ambition despite the stiff competition within the ruling party.

He pledged loyalty to the APC and assured that he would support any candidate, including President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, if the party leadership picks him as its flagbearer.

“Okay, all the names you mentioned—Seyi, former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, and Tokunbo Abiru—are qualified to contest for Lagos governor, and this includes Seyi himself, every one of them,” Jandor said.

“But aside from the former governor, none of the others mentioned, including Seyi, have actually contested a governorship election like I have. I come with that experience, having gone through the entire electoral process alone, without backing, and learnt the complexities involved in campaigning and winning in Lagos.”

Jandor, who finished third in the 2023 election with 62,449 votes behind incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the APC (762,134 votes) and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (312,329 votes), stressed that his resolve to run again was firm.

He added that while he is in the race, all aspirants will ultimately rally behind whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.

On the 2027 presidential election, Jandor declared it would be a “walkover” for Tinubu, pointing to the president’s widened political influence across Nigeria since 2023.

“2027, not only in Lagos but across the country, is going to be a walkover for the man whose courage and leadership have contributed so much to Nigeria today,” he said.

He noted that unlike 2023 when his Lagos4Lagos movement operated outside the APC structure, this time he was within the system and better positioned to compete.

Jandor dismissed speculations about any presidential ambition of his own, saying: “Of course, because there is no vacancy at Aso Rock until 2031, my next step is to run again for the same office, rather than considering the presidency at this time.”
