The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken disciplinary action against some of its operatives following allegations that they extorted ₦10 million from rapper Oladipupo Oladimeji, better known as Oladips.

In a statement released on Saturday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed that the agency had launched a full internal investigation into the musician’s claims and had suspended the officers involved pending the outcome of the probe.

Oladips had recently revealed that he was detained by EFCC operatives for five days, despite no evidence of wrongdoing, and was allegedly forced to pay the said sum before being allowed to go home. His accusations sparked public outrage and called the agency’s conduct into question.

Describing the matter as “a grave allegation,” Oyewale said the officers linked to the case had been recalled to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja for interrogation.

“The grim picture painted by the artist does not reflect the true image of the EFCC,” he asserted.
“We have commenced investigations accordingly, and the officers involved have been relieved of operational duties while the process continues.”

The commission stressed that it would not shield any operative found guilty of misconduct and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability.

At the same time, Oyewale cautioned that if the claims were discovered to be false and aimed at tarnishing the EFCC’s reputation, the agency would not hesitate to take appropriate action against those responsible.

The EFCC added that it remains focused on its mandate and will continue to ensure that officers uphold the values of integrity and professionalism.
