Fresh details have emerged from investigations into the fatal road crash involving former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, with indications that the driver of the vehicle may face prosecution.
A source familiar with the investigation disclosed that findings by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) revealed the vehicle was driven at excessive speed and engaged in wrongful overtaking. The offences are considered serious violations of traffic laws and may attract criminal liability, especially where fatalities are involved.
According to the source, investigators are concluding documentation to be forwarded to the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division, which is already working with prosecutors to determine appropriate charges. Prosecution for dangerous or reckless driving causing death is reportedly being considered.
The source further confirmed that Joshua sustained a fracture in one of his legs as a result of the crash.
Although no official statement has yet been issued by authorities, the incident has reignited public concern over road safety, reckless driving, and accountability on Nigeria’s highways.
The crash occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, and claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
