Fresh concerns have emerged over the condition of former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua following the fatal car crash he was involved in Nigeria.
Joshua was one of four occupants in a black Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary red commercial Sinotruck near Lagos on Monday, December 29. While Joshua and the driver survived the crash, two other passengers — Sina Ghami and Kevin “Latif/Latz” Ayodele, both close friends of the boxer — died at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.
Initial reports suggested that Joshua escaped with only minor injuries. However, new information indicates that his condition may be more serious than first disclosed. According to a report by the Daily Mail, sources close to the boxer have expressed fears that the injuries he sustained could be “more severe than publicised.”
Although Nigerian authorities have played down the extent of the injuries, video footage recorded by bystanders shortly after the crash showed Joshua visibly in pain. Members of his inner circle have reportedly raised concerns about possible rib and knee injuries — developments that could have implications for his boxing career. Despite these worries, sources maintain that Joshua is currently in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, tributes have continued to pour in for Ghami and Ayodele. Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn described them as “two great men” in a statement shared online, while Joshua’s most recent opponent, Jake Paul, also offered condolences, sending his thoughts and prayers to Joshua and the families of the deceased.
