Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is reportedly considering a defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), according to sources familiar with the matter.

If confirmed, the move would represent a significant political realignment in Kano State. Yusuf, who emerged victorious in the 2023 governorship election on the NNPP platform with the backing of his political mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is said to be reviewing his political future as the 2027 general elections approach.

The reports have also revived speculation that Kwankwaso himself may be weighing a return to the APC, potentially alongside key figures within his political structure. This possibility has sparked renewed discussions among party stakeholders and political observers.

Analysts say such a development could alter the political landscape in Kano and have wider implications for national politics, particularly as early maneuverings ahead of the next election cycle gather momentum.

As at the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation of formal negotiations, and neither Governor Yusuf nor his spokespersons have issued a statement on the matter.
