Nollywood historical epic King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos will open in cinemas nationwide on Aug. 28, 2026.
Produced by Teqsus Studios and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the Yoruba-language film tells the story of Oba Kosoko and the political struggles that shaped Lagos in the 19th century.
Directed by filmmaker Adebayo Tijani, the movie is set between 1833 and 1852 and explores the battle for the Lagos throne, political rivalries, leadership and resistance to external influence.
The film’s grand premiere is scheduled for Aug. 23 at IMAX Lekki, Lagos, five days before its nationwide theatrical release.
Femi Adebayo stars as Oba Kosoko, the 12th Oba of Lagos, with more than 70 actors featured in the production.
The star-studded cast includes Odunlade Adekola, Jide Kosoko, Gabriel Afolayan, Fathia Williams, Yinka Quadri, Taiwo Hassan, Tina Mba and Femi Branch, among others.
The production seeks to bring Lagos’ rich history and cultural heritage to a wider audience through the big screen.
