A 37-year-old man, Ziaulihak Zakari, popularly known as “Abuja,” has allegedly confessed to carrying out an acid attack on a female spa worker in the Lakowe area of Lagos State after being paid N500,000 for the operation.

The victim, Olorunseunfunmi Awosogbon, sustained severe injuries to her head, chest and hands during the attack, which occurred on October 25, 2025.

According to reports, Awosogbon had gone for a home service appointment booked through the spa where she worked. The appointment was scheduled to take place at Lakowe Golf Gate near Utmost Care Hospital when she was attacked with a corrosive substance.

Investigations later revealed that the victim was allegedly attacked by mistake.

Her employer, Olorunmaye Ifeoluwa, linked the incident to a dispute involving a former romantic relationship between her and another suspect accused of masterminding the attack. She explained that the relationship lasted only a few months and was characterised by constant disagreements before it eventually ended.

Zakari and another suspect, identified as Owolabi Daniel, were subsequently arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court on charges bordering on conspiracy, threat to life and causing bodily harm.

Zakari, who was reportedly arrested on March 19, 2026, allegedly admitted during police interrogation that he accepted the job to carry out the acid attack but mistakenly targeted the wrong person.

According to his statement, Daniel contacted him through a security guard and informed him about the assignment.

“There is a man named Daniel who contacted me through a security guard and told me he had a job. When he said he needed someone to pour acid on a person, I agreed,” he reportedly said.

Zakari further disclosed that he initially failed to execute the attack because he became afraid, but later carried it out when another opportunity arose.

“I mistook the target and attacked the wrong person,” he confessed.

The suspect also alleged that the acid used in the attack was supplied by Daniel and the security guard who facilitated their meeting.

He claimed he received N500,000 for carrying out the operation and later paid the security guard N50,000 for linking him to the job.

Court documents alleged that the suspects conspired in October 2025 in the Lakowe area of Ibeju-Lekki to commit offences including threat to life and causing bodily harm, contrary to the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The charge sheet also accused Daniel of threatening Ifeoluwa through WhatsApp messages, while Zakari was specifically charged with unlawfully causing bodily harm to Awosogbon by pouring acid on her.
