The Lagos State Government has commenced a second round of enumeration for residents affected by the Oworonshoki regeneration project, reaffirming its commitment to compensate qualified property owners.
The exercise, conducted by the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), began on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the Oloworo Palace in Oworonshoki, Kosofe Local Government Area.
The General Manager of LASURA, TPL Oladimeji Animashaun, led officials of the agency to the venue, where community leaders, chiefs, CDA and CDC representatives, civil society groups, security personnel, members of the press, and numerous residents gathered — particularly those who were not captured during the initial enumeration.
In his remarks, Animashaun expressed gratitude to the affected residents for their cooperation and confidence in the government’s commitment. He noted that the successful payment of compensation to about 79 property owners in the first phase clearly demonstrated the sincerity of the Sanwo-Olu-led administration.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu must be commended and appreciated for the fulfillment of his promise to compensate residents,” he said.
It will be recalled that the first round of compensation — involving the issuance of certified cheques — took place on October 23 and 24, 2025, in a ceremony also held at the Oloworo Palace. The event was attended by community stakeholders, including Hon. Ganiyu Babatunde Sanni, the lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Animashaun further acknowledged the dedication of key officials driving the project, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS and Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, and the Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Arc Gbolahan Oki.
Affected residents were encouraged to collect, complete, and return enumeration forms along with supporting documents — including LASSRA ID, passport photographs, land receipts or deed of conveyance, and bank details. A joint verification committee comprising LASURA officials, the Oloworo of Oworonshoki Kingdom, CDA/CDC executives, and residents’ representatives will authenticate submissions.
The LASURA boss assured that disbursement of compensation to qualified individuals will commence shortly after the verification exercise is concluded.
Some residents who spoke to reporters expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and those overseeing the process, commending the fair and patient approach taken to ensure no deserving person is left out.
