The Lagos State Government has commenced a joint enforcement operation to remove illegal squatters, shanties, makeshift structures, and unauthorised trading activities along the median of the Orile–Okokomaiko section of the Badagry Expressway.
The exercise follows a directive issued by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Saturday, June 27, 2026, aimed at reclaiming public infrastructure and restoring order along one of the state’s busiest transport corridors.
According to the government, the operation became necessary following growing concerns over the continued encroachment on road medians, which had created traffic safety hazards, environmental nuisance, public disorder, and security risks.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance policy on the unlawful occupation of road infrastructure and other public spaces, directing immediate action to restore the median to its intended public use.
The enforcement exercise is being carried out by a joint team comprising officials of the Lagos State Environmental Task Force, Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
Authorities said the operation forms part of the government’s broader efforts to safeguard public infrastructure, improve traffic flow, promote environmental sanitation, and enhance public safety across the state.
The government also warned that the illegal occupation of road medians and other public spaces would no longer be tolerated, stressing that similar enforcement operations would be extended to other parts of Lagos where encroachment persists.
Residents and stakeholders were urged to cooperate with enforcement agencies and refrain from activities that undermine public infrastructure, as the government pledged to sustain the operation until all illegal structures along the corridor are removed.
