The Lagos State Government has reiterated that the Lekki–Epe corridor has been formally redesignated as a Mass Transit and Regulated Transport Corridor under the state’s Bus Reform Initiative (BRI), following recent protests by Korope minibus operators along the route.

In a statement issued in response to the protest on the Lekki–Epe Expressway, the government said the transition was deliberate, data-driven, and aligned with its long-term plan to build a safer, more efficient, and economically sustainable transport system.

The state clarified that restrictions placed on unregulated Korope operations were neither sudden nor targeted, stressing that enforcement was preceded by extensive stakeholder engagement. According to the government, multiple consultations were held with transport unions, corridor operators, and relevant associations, alongside sensitisation campaigns, public advisories, and formal notifications issued well ahead of enforcement.

The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to structured mass transit operations, orderly and regulated transport systems, the protection of lives and property, and zero tolerance for actions capable of disrupting public peace.

Authorities urged all transport operators to comply with the regulatory framework guiding the corridor and to embrace structured participation within the formal transport system, noting that the reforms are designed to improve safety, efficiency, and overall mobility for residents.
